Overview

The Jordanian Industrial Sector plays a pivotal role in the process of economic development to be a strategic partner in achieving the national goals of comprehensive sustainable social and economic development. The Jordanian government plays the main role in empowering the industrial sector, especially entrepreneurs, to be the driving force for the process of economic transformation in Jordan. This will be implemented through the adoption of policies and strategies based on transparency, objectivity and scientific methods.

Objectives

  1. Providing a comprehensive industrial database that is fed through electronic linkage with the various databases of Arab and International Agencies.
  2. Enhancing the contribution of the industrial sector to creating jobs and empowering the role of youth and women economically by supporting the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
  3. Providing a database that includes many statistics related to the performance of the Jordanian manufacturing sector at an appropriate level of detail, whether in terms of economic sectors or administrative units. The disaggregation of employment-related data will also include the distribution of gender, age, and governorate
  4. The presence of all data and information on the Jordanian Industrial Sector in one platform is based on:
  • Increasing the efficiency of the performance of the MITS in formulating, implementing and monitoring the evidence-based industrial policy in support of comprehensive and sustainable industrial development in Jordan
  • Identifying opportunities for the private sector to move towards new innovative products   and services.
  • Investors and researchers benefit from reports and studies issued by the Industrial Observatory.
  • Facilitate the monitoring and implementation of sustainable development goals.

Therefore, within the framework of the plans of the MITS and its keenness to encourage national industries and increase their competitiveness, the MITS proceeded to establish this industrial observatory with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in view of:

  • The need for all institutions supporting the industrial sector to establish a comprehensive industrial database.
  • The necessity of having a specialized scientific research and studies unit working on studying and analyzing numbers, data and information and linking them in a scientific manner in terms of their interactions.
  • This leads to an increase in the private sector’s contribution to economic growth.
  • The need to have supportive and promising data for youth and women employment.
  • The need for data to enhance export competitiveness and attract investments.
